Phormium ‘Golden Ray’ – 2 litre pot
Otter Price: £14.99
Phormium ‘Golden Ray’ is an evergreen perennial that can reach up to 200 cm in height and spread. This clump-forming plant has a striking display of upright, arching, sword-like leaves in a mid-green shade, adorned with greyish-green stripes. The margins of the leaves are adorned with creamy yellow hues that occasionally take on a subtle orange tinge. During the summer months, ‘Golden Ray’ may surprise you with the emergence of panicles of yellow flowers that adorn its leafless stems.
Care instructions:
– Avoid planting directly in the frozen soil.
– Container planting is possible throughout the year; use containers that are large and deep enough to prevent roots from freezing in the winter and ensure there are drainage holes in the bottom of the container. Planting in small containers will lead to plants becoming rootbound.
– Water well after planting. Water well in dry weather. Avoid waterlogged conditions in winter. Established plants can cope with dry conditions well. If planted in containers, water regularly.
– Feed in the first year after planting with balanced feed. Established plants do not require regular feeding.
– In the spring, remove the dead and damaged leaves from the foliage. Avoid hard pruning.
– To maintain the plant’s appearance, remove faded flowers by cutting the stem to a strong leaf without leaving it sticking out of the foliage.
– Divide the plant every 3-4 years or when it becomes too large for the designated area.
